In a world that constantly seeks the next big thing, Steel Panther continues to prove that rock and roll never dies. Fuck yah!
Their recent performance at Seattle’s Sodo on April 27 was a raucous delight of everything that makes the genre timeless. From the moment Steel Panther took to the stage, it was evident that the band was here to party. From the first chords of “Eye of a Panther” they catapulted audiences back to the heyday of glam metal, to an era of over-the-top excess, debauchery, and unadulterated fun.
Decked out in their trademark spandex, tight leather and teased hair, the band exuded an infectious energy that electrified the crowd. Frontman Michael Starr commanded the stage with his larger-than-life persona, delivering soaring vocals and witty banter with equal finesse. Guitarist Satchel shredded through riffs and solos with effortless precision, while bassist Joe "Spyder" Lester together with drummer Stix Zadinia provided a solid backbone to the band's high-octane sound and comic routine.
The setlist was a perfect mix of Steel Panther classics like “Just Like Tiger Woods”, “Tomorrow Night” and newer tracks “Friends with Benefits” and “1987”, with each song dripping and slaying with the sleazy swagger that has become their trademark.
The show culminated with “17 Girls in Row” with the majority of the stage covered in scantily clad Steel Panther fans (yes there were flashes) and concertgoers rocked out to the final song “Party Like Tomorrow Is the End of the World” which solidified the band's continued ability to be one of the best live bands of all time.
Steel Panther fans really get a two-for-one. A concert and a comedy show and BOTH are top shelf. But beyond the music, what truly sets a Steel Panther concert apart is the sense of camaraderie and inclusivity that permeates the atmosphere. Despite the over-the-top personas and risqué lyrics, there's a genuine sense of connection between the band and their fans. Whether they were sharing outrageous stories from the road or inviting audience members onstage for impromptu air guitar battles, Steel Panther made sure that everyone felt like part of the party. As the final notes of "Party Like Tomorrow Is the End of the World" echoed through the venue, it was clear that Steel Panther had once again delivered a night to remember. In an age where rock and roll seems increasingly relegated to the annals of history, Steel Panther stands as a defiant reminder that the spirit of excess and rebellion is alive and well. Long live rock and roll, and long live Steel Panther.
