This was a SOLD OUT SHOW, but what did you expect when you have such heavy hitters together like Behemoth and Arch Enemy. I do a lot of reviews, and each venue I have my favourite spot, just not on sold out ones, it was packed.
Tonight the openers were UNTO OTHERS, a good choice to warm up the crowd, I personally haven't seen them perform, the crowd knew them though, and enjoyed their choice of songs.
Next is NAPALM DEATH, a grindcore/death metal band, and I am sorry to say, I am not a grindcore death metal fan at all, but I could tell the fans were crazy for them, you couldn't even walk down the aisle in the venue. Mosh pits were crazy as heck. They played a lot of songs that the crowds went crazy for, but ask the fans there and they would tell you these guys kicked some ass.
ARCH ENEMY, well there is no need to tell you who is in the band, because we all know, they are been around for many years, and have really excelled at putting on amazing show for a long time. This was no exception. Still couldn't get down to my spot though. But I did find another one that allowed me to see over everyones heads to enjoy their whole set. They played a whole range of songs, including some of their newer ones, the crowds were pretty happy to hear each and every one, headbanging, horns in the air. Each member really looked happy to be up on that stage again, after all it has been awhile since covid hit and halted everything in it's tracks. After all the shows, they still each gave 150% to the crowd tonight.
Now, it is the headliner tonight BEHEMOTH that hits the stage, and for them, I pushed and shoved my way down to get my usual dose of the mighty conquerers. You all know them by name, but I will tell you, you should never miss them when they come to town. Nergal, Orion, Seth and Inferno create a night to remember. There wasn't a song on that set list that the crowd didn't know, well maybe their new one, "Ov My Herculean Exile", but looking around, there were people singing along. That is dedication, they have come a long way from the beginning, and they have made an extraordinary mark on the music scene. Their stage gear changes throughout the night, including new masks (Im going to say representative from the upcoming new record) giving more than just music, but visuals and excitement to the crowd. They played such a great variety of songs tonight, I enjoyed every one of them, and by checking the crowd, so did they. There is no one like Behemoth, they are unique and talented musicians. But when they play "O Father, O Satan, O Son", you love it, but at the sametime, kind of get sad, because you know this is their last song. They did an amazing job, they gave their all to us fans. Hopefully it won't be too long before a return to crush us Vancouverites once again.
