This tour has been a long time coming from the New Jersey natives. Selling out five nights at the Forum is no easy feat but the fans came out in droves to celebrate the reunion of the one and only My Chemical Romance. It felt as if you were taken back to the early 2000’s with the amount of black makeup and clothing that had taken over the Forum that night. Emo kids from young to old were every which way you turned. Not only are they playing 5 nights in Los Angeles but they have different opening bands for every night. Youth Code kicked off the night with their industrial sound but the energy of a hardcore punk band. Nothing short of an electrifying performance that set the mood right for the rest of evening. The next band does not need an introduction because of the impact that they have on the emo scene. Adam from Taking Back Sunday coming out with a presence that is so contagious that you cannot help but sing along and dance to songs like “ Make Damn Sure “ and “ Cute without the E “.
As we are minutes away from MCR hitting the stage, the lights come down to a droning noise that is played for quite some time. You could feel the build up and anticipation from the thousands of fans in attendance. The main question was which Gerard costume were we going to get today? As Gerard hits the stage with flamethrower in hand and fan favorite cheerleader outfit , firing off bursts of fire with a Joker like laugh and smile. Fans at the barricade are going absolutely crazy and screaming at the top of their lungs with pure excitement. Immediately going into their newest track “ The Foundations of Decay” which pleases new and old fans. From that point on it was nothing but hit after hit that the crowd participated at a level that would make any band happy to have made their return. Touching on songs from all of their discography including “ I’m not Okay “ , “ Teenagers “ to “ Famous Last Words “ had all of the emo kids singing songs that they have been waiting a lifetime to hear live.
After a nonstop performance it was that time of the night that nobody enjoys. The final was fitting since it is the closing track of their first album “ I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love “ with the song “ Demolition Lovers “. As everyone brings out there flash lights to illuminate the Forum, MCR plays their heart out as Gerard belts out the last song for the evening ending to a roaring applause . If you haven’t seen My Chemical Romance live, I suggest that you do because they put on one hell of a show.
