This all happened May 9th at the Red Room in Vancouver. I had been looking forward to this tour since it was announced.
First up tonight is Death Metal band HIDEOUS DIVINITY, from Rome Italy, and first time seeing them for me, but they were a good band to get the crowd warmed up for what was coming.
THE AGONIST took the stage next, and truthfully was surprised to see them, oh, I was glad they were there, but they have not had the best of luck during this tour with their RV, so please buy some merch and help them out. If you don't know who they are, they are a Canadian melodic death metal band out of Montreal, Quebec. They really had the floor filled, and with high energy. They played a great set, good choice of songs, and they enteracted with the audience. Vicky Psarakis sang her heart out for the entire set, and she has some great vocals. The whole band was right on que and gave Vancouver their all.
CARACH ANGREN, if you haven't heard them before, this band has two main members, Ardek and Seregor, haunted souls of Horror Black Metal from The Netherlands, along with guitarist Also with a new drummer at the helm this time around Michiel van der Plicht. As always they were on top of their performance. Always so cool too to see the face paint, and listen to their music, which some of which was from the new album "Franckensteina Strataemontanus". Great set, wish the stage had been larger as Seregor usually moves around a lot more than he did. But you could see them from where you were in the venue. Great selection of songs too, and ones that had the crowd pumped and moshing. Had to get out of the way , but seems everyone was enjoying themselves, that is what happens when you have a band like Carach Angren, great songs and great stage performance.
Now, HYPOCRISY, the headliner, a band that has been around since 1991. This is who I have been waiting for this since this tour was announced in January, I can tell you the wait was well worth it. They have a new drummer along with them, Henrik Axelsson, and he did an amazing job at the kit. The whole band gave 150% up on stage tonight. So impressed. The set list was long, and with some amazing songs too, some new, some old, some never played before. I couldn't have been more thrilled to hear all of them, and the ones I hadn't heard before, great choice. It was like almost 1 song off every album, and then some. I even got the chance to hear my all time favourite "Children of the Grey", I have to say each song kicked ass for us Vancouverites. I could have enjoyed just Hypocrisy all night. Yes, they are that good. Vocals (Peter Tägtgren) spot on and brutal, guitar riffs (Tomas Elofsson) killed it, bass (Mikael Hedlund) the thundering roar in your ears, and let's not forget the newest member Henrik Henrik Axelsson, who never missed a beat, great job for someone who had to learn so many songs before heading out. They all had our hearts beating, they had our attention from the moment they stepped on stage, and our minds were blown away. This band knows what they are doing, and they put a set list together to please everyone. Please don't miss Hypocrisy, you never know when they might come back. Plus this show will leave you with some amazing memories. Thank you for making the trek to North America, this reviewer really appreciated it.
