Well a real change of pace here compared to last nights power metal show, this is all death metal. Deep growls, heavy bass, fast drums, tonight is all heavy to the core.
Sorry but getting off work at 6, and doors were at 6, you can imagine Char and I missed the first bands due to commute time, got there in time to witness the almighty death metal masters ABYSMAL DAWN, out of Los Angeles, California. This isn't the first time I have seen these guys, but I am always awe struck with how fantastic they are. The vocals by founding member and also guitarist, Charles Elliott are masterful and brutal, but can still hear the words, amazing since it is technical, brutal and melody all together. Let's not forget that bassist Eliseo Garcia adds his death vocals to the mix. The machine gun drumming is James Coppolino, he is a real master up there. Plus there is Vito Petroni on guitar, which him and Charles share doing lead as well as rhythm. All these guys give 150% up there, they excell at what they do. Sadly I found the audience not too enthusiastic, which really helps to fuel the band, and let's them know the crowd appreciates what they are doing. Well I was, horns high, singing along, just couldn't see me, I was in a safe spot at the back, since mosh pits were constant. You see there is always moshing, and well some people really got slammed this time around. You like metal then this is the band for you. Like moshing, this is the band for you, like great songs, stage performance, ABYSMAL DAWN is the band for you. Absolutely a phenomenal show to witness.
Headliner tonight is CRYPTOPSY, Canadian technical death metal out of Montreal. They did a great job, but the first thing I though when watching them was the singer, looked a lot like Corpsegrinder from Cannibal Corpse, same stance, long hair, held the mic almost the same, music also made me think of Cannibal. Hard to review when I kept thinking of the other band. But they did do an amazing job, the crowd loved every minute they played, as it has been several years since they were in Vancouver (2014 at Commodore infact). Plus, you guessed it, more moshing happened. My opinion doesn't really matter, it is what the fans think after all it is all about them and their bands.
