Metaltitans own Metal Mom reviews Cannibal Corpse along with Swedish black metallers Dark Funeral at the Rickshaw Theatre, Vancouver on November 18th. This was the second of two shows, and both sold out, which honestly speaking, is a rarity in these parts.
There were two other bands tonight, Immolation and Black Anvil, but sadly due to traffic accidents and hold ups, we didn't make it in time to cover and review these two bands. Hopefully next time around.
So first to watch was DARK FUNERAL (Sweden), and boy they raised some hell. The venue was packed, people even upstairs, ready for some black metal tonight. On stage is Lord Ahriman (guitars, founder) Chaq Mol (guitar), Heljarmadr (vocals) and Adra-Melik (bass), and Jalomaah (drums). It is no wonder they call them the most intense Black Metal acts ever. They have been around nearly 30 years now, so they have perfected their sound and look. Their music is aggressive and sinister giving their fans an epic night. It has been awhile since I have seen them live (2019 on the Devastation on the Nation tour to be exact) I was not disappointed, they gave 150% up there on stage. I am always impressed with Dark Funeral and their performance. They played a variety of songs, which the crowd went crazy for, and I imagine the pit was intense too, just couldn't see it with so many there (and safely keeping a distance, as I am not a "circle pit" fan, haha!). After watching and listening to their performance, I realized there is no one out there that matches these guys, musically, the songs, their appearance, they have it all. You have got to witness yourself the best of the best. There are many tour dates left, so don't miss out, you won't be disappointed. You think they sound great on an album, then just wait until you hear them play live, you won't ever miss a show when they come to town. The only thing I wished for was just a tad more light to see them better, but then it wouldn't be Dark Funeral. My favourite of the night.

CANNIBAL CORPSE hit the stage to a roar from the crowd. Everyone knows that name, and they know what to expect from one of the most brutal bands in North America. Last time we saw them was November 2019, so 3 years later, frontman George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher(vocals), Paul Mazurkiewicz (drums), Rob Barrett (guitar), Alex Webster (bass) and Erik Rutan (guitar) give Vancouverites just what they came for, a night of brutal death metal, goregrind and more. Even though they're so well known, it seems to be catchy, yet brutal songs, Corpsegrinder doing his well known headbanging, and music that just hits you. Also what catches peoples attention of course is the graphic imagery for their albums, but a show doesn't depict that, it will just show you the ability of all the musicians and their talents. There were a lot of sweaty people moving around. I noticed a few little lulls between songs, but the fans loved it, gave them time to go get a shot, then back to the mosh pit. Cannibal never disappoints , the fans enjoyed every song they played, especially the well known ones. Great show.
